PARTICIpATE

Identifies and participates in communities of practice within the field of Educational Technology

Since joining the LDT program, I have been introduced to several online communities. Some of those communities include an LDT group on Facebook, and some instructional design groups or communities on LinkedIn.

Some of the conversations in the program surrounded joining professional networks, and even having a membership.

These membership opportunities include:

1. ASTD (American Society for Training and Development) -This site allows you to take part in a membership, conferences, and podcasts.

2. E-Learning Guild -The E-Learning Guild offers 3 types of membership, one being free! This community is perfect for Instructional Design enthusiasts. The E-Learning Guild has offered me the opportunity to join as a member for free. They recently sent me some information on e-learning conferences throughout the United States. A professional goal of mine would be to find a conference I could attend to expand my knowledge within instructional design and make some new connections. I attended a non-profit conference and took some courses on general training skills, but I would like something that would focus more on e-learning.

3. ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) - Membership focuses on K-12 experience within Instructional Design

Throughout this program with Purdue, it became quite apparent the vast amount of online communities and the ease of finding others who have passion for this field.
