Develops a personal vision of inclusive educational practice.

Describes the relationship between Educational Technology and the broader field of Education

  • While in EDCI 513 (Foundations of Learning Design and Technology) I was asked to develop my personal vision and definition of educational technology during week one of the course. Within my initial description, I started to describe educational technology as "a thoughtful learning process including pre-established theories when creating any on line learning courses. In addition, it has a presence of enactive learning."

  • Upon completing the course, my final definition was described as "learning design and technology is an active and engaging learning process utilizing technological and learning theories. It involves the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of information through different software and other technological applications."

  • The course allowed me to become grounded in what educational technology really involves, the ability to help others learn successfully while effectively using smart technology resources.

Critically evaluates theory and practice

  • Throughout EDCI 531 (Learning Theories and Instructional Design), and specifically in my final paper of the course  I reviewed how effective training and learning theories can promote a stronger learning experience when working with volunteers. For instance, during outdoor training courses, it can be challenging for volunteers to remember particular outdoor skills. Some of the learning theories I researched included proper rehearsal and encoding which would allow the learners to move those skills into their long term memory. One idea in particular involved the volunteers working with mnemonics. This particular assignment allowed me to explore different learning theories, and how they could be applied to a non-profit environment which can propose a harder time training adults since they are not "paid" to be involved.
